Hand or Foot Salt Scrub

I have had a lot of inquiries of late for personal care items that are sulfite free, so I am starting my collection of recipes for your body. This scrub is so easy, and your skin will feel like heaven.

  • Coarse Sea Salt
  • Olive Oil
  • Lavender Essential Oil (or really whatever oil you like)

OK – so I am sure the first thing you noticed is that there are no amounts in this recipe. That is for a very good reason – the actual amounts don’t much matter. It really depends on the size of your jar. Fill your wide mouthed jar of choice almost to the top with the coarse salt. Pour the oil slowly in until it soaks through the salt and creates a small oil layer on top of the salt. Add the essential oils until you are happy. Stir. Yep, that is it. When you use the scrub, be sure not to wash, but just rinse when you are done. That way the oil will moisturize your hands and not wash off.

I’ve been doing this for several months and love it…only I normally add some orange pulp after juicing several oranges instead of essential oil. I’ll have to make up a batch with lavendar oil.

Wow! That would be a great idea to add fruit pulp like orange or lemon. I don’t do well with essential oils so this seems interesting and possibly something I can do. My only question is that since adding fresh fruit pulp, should the scrub be refrigerated? How long would it last versus essential oils. Any ideas?

I usually make about 1 cup and just keep it in a plastic tupperware container in the shower for easy access. I have pretty dry skin and can usually go through it in a about a week to week and a half and haven’t had any problems with it going bad or smelling. Depending on how dry my skin is I use it every day or every couple days. If you plan to use it less often you may want to make smaller batches or keep it in the fridge. I would always forget to grab it if I stored it in the fridge, but that’s just me!

Costco’s Kirkland brand shampoo, conditioner, and lotion are all sulfite free and amazing. My hair has never looked better.
